2004 Croft LBV

Half bottle; bottled in 2009. A rich deep red in colour, just transparent in the centre. A little sour cherry and purple plum on the nose, but not well developed - perhaps a little more time in the glass will help. Soft entry, gentle but flavoursome fruit supported by a nicely balanced acidity and still a little chocolate from the roasted coffee tannins. Very pleasant texture and good development on the tongue. Sharp acidity on the back of the throat on the aftertaste, before a lovely dark chocolate and bitter blackcurrant finish of very impressive duration. This port has really hit its stride! 89/100. Drunk 07-May-14. Decanted 1 hour.
Top Ports in 2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.

2025: Quevedo 1972 Colheita, b.2024. Just as good as Niepoort 1900!
