1963 Avery

Post by Alex Bridgeman »

Avery's Special Reserve vintage port. Deep red with a bricking centre, 50% opaque. Sugary toffee apple on the nose, with a bit of marzipan. Deep and concentrated flavours on entry, big fruit flavours and powerful tannins - this delivers a huge palate presence with great depth and flavour. Some heat on the aftertaste, then a big licorice and intense aniseed finish of great length. A very impressive port with a long future still ahead of it. (Reported to have been 3 pipes Sandeman, 2 pipes Taylor, 1 pipe Fonseca.) 92/100. Drunk 23-Apr-14. Decant N/K.
Top Ports in 2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.

2025: Quevedo 1972 Colheita, b.2024. Just as good as Niepoort 1900!
