1977 Sandeman

A pale reddish-gold in colour, 15% opaque. Astringent nose, lots of fruit but the fruit is very sour - rhubarb and green gooseberries. Soft palate entry, modest fruit but powerful acidity and even some gentle tannins on the mid-palate. Medium to light-bodied. Gentle aftertaste but good volume finish of great length. 86/100. Drunk 23-Apr-14.
Top Ports in 2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.

2025: Quevedo 1972 Colheita, b.2024. Just as good as Niepoort 1900!
