Well, Cheap Ruby is 10, I'm reckoning on 10,000 for Fonseca '63, so a few more than that. This is subject to change.

I resent being Cruz Ruby!

In protest, I will not post again until I am elevated to an improved status

Hi Alex,

We all had to do the walk of shame. Best thing is to close your nose, take a deep breath and produce 10 posts as quick as you can. It'll leave a nasty aftertaste for a while, but you have plenty of time to wash that away with some 'cheap ruby'.

I've just gone Noval. This is the first level that I actually enjoy drinking and would choose to buy even if it were not on offer.

Now I've been thinking about this and I've decided that I just don't believe you - think the creationism vs evolution debate.

What evidence have I got that you've all been through the Cruz Ruby phase of evolution before me? I look at the status of people on the members list and I see no-one who has evolved past Cruz Ruby. I see people who have the status of Cruz Ruby and people who don't.

I propose an alternative theory, that somewhere on this forum there is a person known only as "The Creator". He decides on the status to give each member and only he decides when this status changes to something better. Therefore I am preparing to pilgrimage to the Sky Blue City with several worthy offerings and will petition said Creator to change my status once I have presented these offerings.

If my approach works and you are all wrong about your status changing with the number of posts that you make then you will see my status change very soon, as soon as I reach the Sky Blue City!

Just wait and see who's right!!

I thought I'd look for the Bishop of Norwich, someone who knows the Bishop of Norwich and also take my pet dog (actually, cat since I don't have a dog - but I can call the cat Toto if it helps). I haven't decided on the third person but will happily consider any helpful suggestions.

To help solicit volunteers I thought I should mention that I plan to take as offerings Noval 1931, Nacional 1963 and 1966, Taylor 1927 and Croft 1945.

Of course, if the offering idea doesn't work then I guess the Tin Man, Scarecrow, Cowardly Lion, Toto and me will just have to drink the bottles ourselves.....

What, you mean no need to bring you that bottle of Croft 1945 that I have taken out of my cellar? You'll upgrade me without me bringing you that bottle of Quinta do Noval 1931?

Just for posting one more message?

I'm not sure my code of personal ethics will allow me to accept such a gift. You might be trying to corrupt me.

No, I think I will refuse to allow you to upgrade me just for posting another message. Honestly, if I allowed such a thing then where would we all be in a few months time?

Top Ports in 2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.

2025: Quevedo 1972 Colheita, b.2024. Just as good as Niepoort 1900!

It appears that somebody is abusing their privileges and making up ports that don't exist. It's only because he knows what is around the corner.

So, I've just graduated from Cruz Ruby to Cheap Ruby. This raises a couple of questions:

The first is embedded in the discussions above and possibly elsewhere, and that is, is there a list anywhere telling us how many posts we need to achieve each level, or is it a closely guarded secret, bordering on something made up by admin as That Exulted Person goes along?

Secondly, how bad is Cruz Ruby? I've never had it, but the fact that it's worse than Cheap Ruby actually makes me want to head to Lidl (I'm guessing) and buy a bottle.

At the off-line in London two weeks ago I dragged a bottle along. As it happens it was a bottle that my Mother won in a raffle along with some undrinkable whisky and a flagon of minging cider.

General consensus was that it was weak, watery and unpleasant; but better than Cockburn's Ruby. This is a shame as guess what your next level is. As people have reached certain levels already it goes like this:
  • 0 - Cruz Ruby
    10 - Cheap Ruby
    25 - Cockburn's Ruby
    50 - Fonseca Bin 27
    75 - Warre's Warrior
    100 - Fonseca LBV
    150 - Taylor's LBV
200 - Quinta do Noval LBV
    250 - Niepoort LBV
    300 - Warre's Traditional LBV
    400 - Graham's The Tawny
    500 - Warre's Otima 10 year old Tawny
    600 - Warre's Otima 11 Year Old Tawny
You may notice a slight descrepency at the end where a bit of rogue adminsitration generated an illegal port level. The perpetrator has since disappeared without trace. Let that be a warning to you all.

Jules,

If I want to take 3 Posts to write, 'it wont last' and say on the last one 'See, it didn't, I'm now M85' that's my prerogative.
The fact that you find it tedious, boring, weak, or whatever other words you have used previously, is your issue.
It's only when everyone agrees with you, that it will stop. (it was a technical mistake when Axel thanked you for running 'your' Forum)

Now you know how often everyone agrees with you?

So take a chill pill, as I did before constructing this Post. :)

Alan.
