Deep red, less purple than the FG12 shown alongside. Restrained floral nose, faint but lovely. Smooth entry with the palate dominated by powerful tannins over the top of lovely sweet fruit. Nice balance, but of power rather than elegance. Great layering of flavours on the palate and an immense finish that comes with many twists and turns. Lovely port. 94-96. Drunk 03-Jun-14.
Top 2025: Quevedo 1972 Colheita, b.2024. Just as good as Niepoort 1900!
