First from a six-pack purchased for not much money from BBR a couple of weeks ago for immediate drinking.
Colour still very dark in the core but starting to show some age around the edge. Beautiful intense nose of blackcurrant jam. Full in the mouth, almost too much so, but a lovely smooth texture. Massive tannins in the mid-palate that seem to be hiding the fruit. Finish of medium length and quite dry and slightly bitter due to the tannins. A few hours in the decanter might be a good idea.
This is no stunner but it actually appears to be a bigger wine than I expected from this vintage. It is too young for the purists to contemplate opening but I suspect my remaining bottles will go very well with some juicy steaks in the coming months.
