Port Bottlers and Merchants

Post by jdaw1 »

This thread is to hold discussion about Port bottlers and merchants.

Some of my questions will originate from Christie’s data, but not necessarily all.

In an auction on 1 April 1898 a Port is described as “bottled 1863, by Bird”. Do we know anything of “Bird”?

I have a feeling that most of these questions of yours will end as rhetorical.

However there is reference to a R.M. Bird wine merchant of Stratford upon Avon. Bird is a common name so there may be others.

Actually I'm not sure that RM Bird fits the timeframe.

Very plausible. But perhaps for a minority regulars on this forum might own some relevant bottles.

Then I shall cease and desist from blundering about the Internet and books after references to Mr Bird.
