1986 Chateau Balestard La Tonnelle
Chateau Balestard La Tonnelle 1986 purchased from BBR earlier this week.
A nice golden red colour which looks fully mature with no opaque core in the glass.
A slightly stinky nose with notes of classic claret farmyard but also a hint of mustiness. Not enough to be off-putting, but there. Medium weight in the mouth. Smooth and dry with little fruit and a slightly soapy texture. Nothing horrible about it, but not much to rave about either. "Serviceable" is as complimentary as I can be about this wine and it is not something I would choose to buy again at this price or even with 50% off.

Blimey! You don't care. Berry's is a bit pricey sometimes. But it's so easy to buy from. Got my port walk ticket today btw.
Re: 1986 Chateau Balestard La Tonnelle
It was bought as an experiment. The experiment had a positive conclusion. Buying a case without trying would have been a less successful venture.LGTrotter wrote:Blimey! You don't care. Berry's is a bit pricey sometimes. But it's so easy to buy from.
Me too.LGTrotter wrote:Got my port walk ticket today btw.
I have also posted the above note on the BBR site. I wonder whether or not it will be approved by the moderator.

Did yours come in an envelope in another envelope, contained in another envelope with a seal? It felt like receiving the sealed orders on a nuclear submarine.DRT wrote:Me too.LGTrotter wrote:Got my port walk ticket today btw.
Bound to, I thought you were quite polite given the price.DRT wrote:I have also posted the above note on the BBR site. I wonder whether or not it will be approved by the moderator.

Just had a look at the reviews on Berrys for this one. I assume the moderator is still thinking about your review. Unless you are 'Grasshopper' and have lied about your age.

An envelope I brought back to Berlin from London, brought there from Belfast, contained another envelope, which contained another envelope. Inside was JDAW's Port Walk ticket. But no sign of our two...

No! Say you are toying with me. Glenn will claim this is all part of the grand scheme for the two of us never to be seen in the same place.djewesbury wrote:An envelope I brought back to Berlin from London, brought there from Belfast, contained another envelope, which contained another envelope. I should have said our three - Rachel, André and I. I have emailed the ever-helpful Lisa at BBR to ask, in a slightly prissy way, whether my other tickets are on their way.LGTrotter wrote:No! I see myself doing the hornpipe at a rope's end at execution dock by London Town, as Mr Silver would say. Don't move a thing, it is all pertinent.djewesbury wrote:Well then, get scrubbing, deck-hand! I was so tempted to write something cutting, but fear of the Berrys moderators stayed my hand. Sill time I spose.
