Anything but Port, this includes all wines other than fortified wines (which have their own section) even if they call themselves Port. There is a search facility for this part of the forum.

The aftermath of Kurwinian.

Post by LGTrotter »

Not quite sure where this best sits.

Now that Rudy has been sentenced to ten years it seems a good time to reflect. There are a couple of interesting articles on wine searcher about this.

I do not think that there is any evidence that he forged port but as a fairly fanatical bunch of wine buyers I wondered if anyone had any thoughts on this. Ten years seems a bit stiff, but perhaps not when you consider the amounts of money involved. The point made in one of the wine searcher articles that Rudy could not have done this without the support of the wider wine trade and the auction scene in particular is one that everybody involved is keen to forget.

The other point about all the super rich guzzling huge quantities of pre war Romanee Conti were drinking fakes may also be a quiet comfort to more pedestrian wine drinkers.

Given the amount of forging Rudy is alleged to have done there must be an awful lot more waiting to surface. I wonder if those collectors who bought off Rudy are going to pour it down the sink or try and cook up some new provenance and pass it on quietly in a few years.

I wonder if Rudy's going to name names now he's inside?

There was talk of a tell all deal with Koch, but I'm not sure what happened to this.

There's an article called "Rudy, Fraud and Wine Snobs" on Wine-Searcher that really sums it up pretty well:

Or to sum it up in just three words: Mundus vult decipi.

This would imply that we would all have been welcome on the four day benders drinking Romanee Conti, it is more a case of the emperor's new clothes.
