1986 Smith Woodhouse LBV (unfiltered)

Post by Alex Bridgeman »

Bottle matured, bottled in 1990. Gentle brick-red in colour, 50% opaque. Almonds and sweet quince paste on the nose. Soft, a little bland on entry. The mid-palate brings a powerful bitterness and a hint of date and soaked prunes. Hot, alcoholic finish then a lingering finish of dates and bitter quince. Good length. I am rather disappointed with this bottle. 83/100. Drunk 19-Oct-14. Decanted 24 hours. I much prefer the Warre 1986 LBV.
Top Ports in 2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.

2025: Quevedo 1972 Colheita, b.2024. Just as good as Niepoort 1900!
