1966 Fonseca

Post by Alex Bridgeman »

Drunk at Quinta do Tedo. Deep red in colour with a rich appearance; 70% opaque. Slightly spirity on the nose with lots of menthol showing. A lot of heat appears on the tongue when sipping, but under this heat is licorice and aniseed. A pleasing sweetness develops with lots of mature fruit, the overall combination is to give a lovely mouth-filling Port. Black licorice on the aftertaste is followed by a gentle and soft finish of great elegance. This is very lovely port, full of extremely sweet fruit but with the acidity to carry this off. 92/100. Drunk 24-Sep-14. Decanted 10½ hours.
Top Ports in 2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.

2025: Quevedo 1972 Colheita, b.2024. Just as good as Niepoort 1900!

F66. Dark red, 50% opaque. Not a perfect example of this. Slight bitterness early palate; red plum throughout; and slightly cloying.
