1927 Val de Mendiz

Post by Alex Bridgeman »

Bottled by Arthur H…odfree & Co Ltd, 11 Arundel Street, London WC2. Mature brick red in colour. A slightly oxidised nose but still with fruit on it. Soft fruit jelly entry, with a lovely intensity of fruit and spices building with time on the palate. Quite sweet, but with enough acidity to balance it. Enjoyable layers of flavour. A very nice aftertaste and a finish that is long and fruity with a pleasant slight bitterness. This is good port. 89/100. Drunk 24-Sep-14. Decanted 5 hours.
Top Ports in 2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.

2025: Quevedo 1972 Colheita, b.2024. Just as good as Niepoort 1900!

Val de Mendiz 1927. Red, 40% opaque. Nose of herb and grass. Palate raspberry and heat. Soft and light, but long. Heat showed strongly throughout. Lovely Port.
