1945 Croft

Post by Alex Bridgeman »

Deep red in colour, mature shade but very dark; 50% opaque. Concentrated ripe orange and dried orange zest on the nose, full and attractive. Sweet on the palate, full of rich Cherry Genoa fruitcake. Tannins still lurk in the background and cooking cherries dominate the lovely and delicious palate. This has great balance on the palate and a lovely elegance to the aftertaste - before the finish explodes in a spray of bitter Seville orange, thick-cut marmalade and delivers an immense finish. Great port from a slightly compromised bottle (leaky cork). 91/100. Drunk 22-Sep-14. Decanted 2½ hours.
Top Ports in 2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.

2025: Quevedo 1972 Colheita, b.2024. Just as good as Niepoort 1900!

Cr45, at Quinta do Vesuvio. Dark red, 70% opaque. Full and sweet, with very dark soft fruit, and a cake. Very good port.
