1977 Fonseca

Post by jdaw1 »

On Monday 19th January 2015 we gathered in the Red Room of the Boot and Flogger to drink some Fonseca, including a bottle that had been drawn from an imperial on Saturday 17th (discussion).

F77. Bright red, opacity not noted. Palate of bright cherry. Heat. Lovely structure, mid weight. Lovely.

Mature red colour, 75% opaque. Faint fruit nose, lots of sweet cherries. Sweet fruit and candied cherries and slightly powdery tannins on the palate - reminds me of Hartley's Jelly Crystals, but in a good way. Lovely layering and development on the palate, chock full of candied glace cherries. Very sweet fruit aftertaste. Soft on the finish, full of slightly woody licorice root. 96/100.
Top Ports in 2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.

2025: Quevedo 1972 Colheita, b.2024. Just as good as Niepoort 1900!
