Bronze red in colour, 50% opaque. Well developed nose of nutmeg, spices and sour plums. Sweet and smooth on the palate, then a delightful balancing bitterness that gives a lovely counterpoise to the sweet fruit. The nutmeg comes through late on the palate and adds to the complexity and hides the slight pepperiness of the almost vanished tannins. Great palate presence. Some slight heat on the aftertaste before a huge finish blooms in the mouth, fragrant and multi-layered and of great length. This is a really fine, elegant and balanced vintage port drinking at its very peak - what a pleasure this is. 94/100. Drunk 20-Feb-15. Decanted 2½ hours.
Top Ports in 2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.

2025: Quevedo 1972 Colheita, b.2024. Just as good as Niepoort 1900!
