1967 Martinez

Bottled by Malpas Stallard Ltd of 11 Copenhagen Street, Worcester. Deep burnished red, 50% opaque. Mature nose, full of sweet fruit and exotic spices — lots of nutmeg and mace. Balanced on the palate, rich and deeply flavoured with a pleasing intensity. The palate is complex and delivers on the promise of the nose, although there is a bitter element that reminds me of unsweetened quince. Thick in texture, this coats the mouth and has a lovely presence. The aftertaste is spiced, slightly dry but has all the complexity of the palate. A sparkling menthol cleanses the mouth before the long aniseed finish takes hold. Really lovely port that is just ‘à point’ but no need to rush to drink up. 92/100. Drunk 06-Apr-2015.
Top Ports in 2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.

2025: Quevedo 1972 Colheita, b.2024. Just as good as Niepoort 1900!
