1960 Fonseca

Post by Alex Bridgeman »

An English bottled port bought at auction as part of a mixed lot of this bottle plus 5 bottles of Taylor 1966. This was "believed to be Fonseca 1963" but was identified from the cork as Fonseca 1960, bottled in 1962.

A mature rose red colour, 50% opaque. On the nose this reveals a lovely scent of mature port, spiced and full of dusty cherry fruit. A lovely texture on entry, mouthfilling and attractive. Held on the palate this delivers gentle tannins, plentiful fruit and a terrific white peppercorn bite. A big aftertaste, dominated by delicious dusty cherries. Huge length. Delicious port. 92/100. Drunk 09-Jan-16. Decanted 24 hours.
Top 2025: Quevedo 1972 Colheita, b.2024. Just as good as Niepoort 1900!

2026: Quinta das Carvalhas 80YO Tawny
