If F70 is unacceptable, then you ask for it to be removed.

:D Lol, I doubt you'll hear such a thing from me! :) Quite the contrary, I'm happy to see it there and appreciate the generosity, but I do want to be sure you are sufficiently reimbursed for the bottles supplied.

I sadly must report that Carl (CE) is dropping out of the tasting. His message was that he is "VERY disappointed." He has offered $$s to cover if necessary, which with everyone's blessing I would like to decline.

This brings us down to 9 port warriors facing 11 bottles. Those are not insurmountable odds, but if there was perhaps someone who might want to attend but we had excluded due to space, this is a truly unique opportunity.

The London standard is fourteen facing thirty-five: I don’t envisage a problem. Another is welcome, but really not required.

I thought 14:35 was a miminum rather than a standard but otherwise your logic seems sound.

To our shame the historical data suggests that 2½ bottles each has been a maximum. Though I agree that it ought to be a minimum, relative to that desideratum we have failed.

On the understanding that none of our US-based contingent will have met Lord & Lady Roots previously may I request that, as the closest thing we have to Royalty in the world of Port, they be given the respect and reverence that they deserve. Julian, the Empire expects you to keep our colonial cousins under tight control and ensure that all proper protocols are observed in the presence of our honoured guests from Europe. Especially those concerning the correct use of cutlery.

Americans and cutlery: don’t get me started. First, they don’t call it cutlery. Some Americans consume soup with an item of what they call ‘flatware’. Yes, really. Others refer to ‘silverware’ that, most bizarrely, isn’t made of silver. Much of the ‘silverware’ in New York City appears to be made of white plastic: I choked on my hallmarks.

As for the Empire, well, its demise is traditionally dated to 1965 no, the birth of DRT did not end the Empire, it is deemed to have died with Churchill, and only two of our ports pre-date that.

However, what I can give the Roots is a box, unopened by me, that allegedly contains a bottle of Warre 1955. If we get very thirsty on the night!

Of course not, as that term only makes sense for a knife. Calling a spoon and fork cutlery is just as strange as calling stainless steel eating utensils silverware. :P At least the term silverware is appropriate - we had a set of silver in my home as I was growing up.

Decant times? Mostly, I propose to start at about 11am and work youngest to oldest. Two exceptions: F85, first thing in morning; and T48, late afternoon.

Dissent?

I greatly appreciate the invitation to come to this and let the record show that my wife encouraged me to hop on a train or the infamous $20 Chinatown bus and go to this tasting.

But I am afraid the scheduling gods are against me and I'll have to sit this one out. What a shame as your lineup is completely impressive and would have given me quite an education. Please post pictures and TNs! Bill

Eleven bottles times ten people is 110 glasses. Three boxes is 108, so we’ll need all four boxes (Jay, Jay, Jeff, JDAW’s partial box).

Eleven bottles times nine people is 99 glasses. Two whole boxes + thirty glasses is 102, so Jeff’s box can stay in Queens.

How many people are we?

To assist with math, that's $1,661 total, to be split nine ways as $185 per person. Please bring cash to make Julian's life easier, unless you and he have some private arrangement.
