DEREK WINS THE PRIZE!
(There is no prize)
It was a russet apple from the abandoned, overgrown orchard in the gardens of the Palacio de Mateus - even the vines seem to be untended. It was a little unripe when I picked it but it was perfect today. The malic acid allowed me to make an observation about fermentation methods in white wines.
The prize is that DRT has to set a question.

Funnily enough (going back to the fruit) this Tesco Bomfim 99 has a taste of green apples in the finish, which I've never noticed in port before. Meanwhile, on opening, RB, not having been told what it was, observed a smell of bananas, a smell she associates with freshly opened Dow. Is there a reason why Dow smells of bananas?

I have currently drunk half a bottle of champagne and some Sandeman 2007 LBV, so I may be misunderstanding the question (see William Tell clue earlier). If I have put be gently but painlessly out of my misery. Shippers of bordeaux I think of Shcroeder and whatsit or.........

"RB"? Riebera?
If so, it could be potassium. Bananas are 10% potassium. Schist is high in potassium and Riebera wines are particularly "earthy" in that they seem to have a very high mineral content.

RB = Supreme Commander, Port-Drinking Forces on the Other Side of the Table.
I like your explanation. I'm just not buying it. This is a Bomfim also, sorry the RB confused you.

My experience of drinking classed growth Bordeaux extends to just over two months. This tastes very nice to me and is recognisable as being from the same producer as the fabulous 1989 I had two nights ago.

THere is no right answer to a purely psychological question.
How much trouble do you think you are in? is the answer.
