Or am I too late? Was DRT correct when he guessed that he was lost?

It appears to be a subdivision of Speyside, according to the SMWS (see box below map). I'm guessing it would be a distilery that is right next to the Spey itself.DRT wrote:What is a Speyside Spey? Google doesn't seem to know.

I can tell you that both guesses are similarly cold.djewesbury wrote:jdaw1 wrote:80 or 88. (Next guesser to guess one of them, at which time I become deemed to have guessed the other.)No and No.JWEW wrote:I'll guess 80, jdaw1 can have 88 for a guess.
The first two digits are wrong.AHB wrote:75.xx

I can't use the numeral 9 on my laptop. You are correct. It was released in their July 13 outturn (Wimbledon final was 7 July). I can give you a further clue; it's no longer available. Which means, when I finish this bottle (which I'm likely to do before you guess what it is) I can't get any more.DRT wrote:I think I have worked out that this is the whisky that was released on the first Friday of the month in which Daniel visited the SMWS in Edinburgh. But the option to list the First Friday whiskies doesn't seem to work so I have no way of finding out what it was. Does it work for anyone else?
But you have the list of Speyside distilleries, and a map will tell you which ones are nearer the river Spey, and Julian's list tells you the numbers, and you have obviously been striking the incorrect guesses off the list... You're so close. You can't fold now.DRT wrote:I can find nowhere on the internet that tells me what that is.
I fold.
That's more like it, you're not a quitter. (No.)AHB wrote:12.23
We've been through about a third of the Speysides. Once you get the distillery, I'm sure you could narrow it down very quickly by looking at what their latest bottling is.DRT wrote:There are a few dozen possible distilleries and a few hundred possible casks numbers. Dozens x hundreds isn't good odds when it comes to guessing.
Thank you! Where's Owen? Where's Julian?AHB wrote:Someone else have a guess! I'm still taking this seriously.
I meant 211.47!AHB wrote:112.47
Mortlach has already been guessed, and eliminated.DRT wrote:7.87?
Hmm. At least the first guess represents a distillery. Albeit one in Loch Lomond.AHB wrote:I meant 211.47!AHB wrote:112.47
Ah. I think there are only about 6,587 possibilities left, so we are getting close.djewesbury wrote:Mortlach has already been guessed, and eliminated.
But they list what is currently available. And that's a start; it at least gives you an indication of which are the valid bottling numbers. And you could always ring them.DRT wrote:I can't find anywhere on the SMWS website where it lists what has been released for each distillery. They don't seem to be leaving a complete historical record, which is shoddy.
Unless I have mistyped it 211 is Kininvie.djewesbury wrote:Hmm. At least the first guess represents a distillery. Albeit one in Loch Lomond.AHB wrote:I meant 211.47!AHB wrote:112.47
The second guess is not a valid number. I think the numbers only go up to 126 or so.
Do you not have the links Derek posted earlier on open in an adjacent tab to this one??
Yes. And he will have the paper version filed somewhere too. And probably catalogued also. Where's he gone? Surely he isn't spending time with his family..?DRT wrote:It is surprising that Julian hasn't guessed this as he will have been sent an email on or around 1st of July this year telling him the answer.
I don't think there is a 211... here is a more recent, up-to-date list than Julian's..AHB wrote:Unless I have mistyped it 211 is Kininvie.djewesbury wrote:Hmm. At least the first guess represents a distillery. Albeit one in Loch Lomond.AHB wrote:I meant 211.47!AHB wrote:112.47

However, I take I am wrong so I am now guessing 106.
You have indeed mentioned the answer (in fact, the bottling number is contained therein also).AHB wrote:Remaining are 7, 8, 9, 18, 34, 35, 36, ]37, 38, 39, 40, 41, 46, 47, 48, 56, 58, 64, 71, 72, 73, 81, 83, 84, 85, 89, 90, 91, 95, 100, 101, 105, 107, 108, 203, 211
