Julian would know. But he isn't here, neither is anyone else by the look of it. I'll go and ask Bertrand Russell, the dog, he'll understand.
Ah Derek! I was beginning to lose heart.

I think we are off the hook. Just you and me here and you were the last person to guess, so we can with a clear conscience divest ourselves of guesswork.
This is peculiarly addictive though.
Any other thoughts, matters outstanding, tips for the 3:30?

So to recap; we are looking for a Velvet underground track with a womans name in the title.
I don't think I have missed any other salient points.

Tempting, but no.
I will follow Daniel's recent ancestral theme.
On Friday I helped consume a bottle of 1792 Blandy's Bual.
My great(x7)-grandfather was a painter.
What is the connection between these two apparently disparate statements? Rather than provide clues, I will answer questions with yes/no if such questions are asked.

And I think you can ask multiple yes/no questions without having to wait for someone else to guess. The only thing the rules prevent you from doing is having two guesses at the answer without someone else having a guess between your guesses.

I rather walked into that one.
I assume as a drinker of one of these bottles you have read all the contradictory information about them. It's a great story though and I think one of the great pleasures of Madeira are the stories. I have often been tempted by the bottles with ship names, remarkable to think of life on those ships and drink the wine. Anyway I digress.
What Velvet Underground track is Alex thinking of? (I hope this works and I won't be toyed with until the small hours)

I think it might be sleep depravation but re Alex's ancestor; I immediately thought of the line about 'Churchill he was not a painter, now Hitler there was a painter, a whole apartment , two coats, only one afternoon...'. I think it was the link between despots and painting, but there.

But I don't understand what the connection is between 1792 Blandy's Bual and Napoleon, directly. I am quite ignorant of Madeira. Can you inform me?

The story goes that Napoleon, when he was being exiled to St Helena the second time around (after Elba?) Stopped at Madeira on the way. A barrel of 1792 Madeira was put on board but not paid for. Napoleon did not drink any of the wine then died and whichever Mr Blandy it was asked for it back. He got it and bottled it, I think in 1840 something on the birth of Walter Grabham (or was it him telling the story) and that is the wine which Alex the lucky beggar drank. The original story is in 'Madeira an island Vineyard', by Noel Cossart, (there is also a more modern reprint with interesting stuff from Mannie Buerk), but it is somewhat contradicted by ALex Liddel in his more prosaically titled 'Madeira'.
I may have got bits wrong.

You are right, there is a massive amount of contradictory information on these bottles...but I don't care. I just love the story and the romance of the idea and the myth associated with drinking a bottle of wine once owned by Napoleon (even if he didn't pay for it) which had been to St Helena and back.
My great(x7)-grandfather is
Jacques-Louis David who painted a number of pictures of Napoleon, of which my favourite is
this - surely no-one could take themselves that seriously?

Sorry to resort to capitals and all that but I just casually said to Em (my wife) 'heard of Jacques-Louis David?' to which she retorted 'What the death of Marat man?' And even I knew that one.
