Very much so. To some of these islands, hypnotically trance inducing. To others, life-and-death practical.

Is it something to do with the weather?

It might have something to do with the geographic coordinate system. So the numbers stand for a certain geograpic spot in the UK.

An excellent observation, and a conclusion that isn’t very wrong.
DRT wrote:Is it something to do with the weather?
Yes it is.
AW77 wrote:It might have something to do with the geographic coordinate system. So the numbers stand for a certain geograpic spot in the UK.
Not standing for a geographic location.
AW77 wrote:Is it the elapsed seconds days minutes between the opening of double magnums of Sandeman Vau in the Wiseman household?
Though a pleasing set of hypotheses, no.

So the sequence is to do with weather, the numbers being minutes is not far wrong and the eighth number in the sequence is predictable.
So, chaps, what is constant about the weather?

DRT wrote:So the sequence is to do with weather, the numbers being minutes is not far wrong and the eighth number in the sequence is predictable.

It could be something constant with that sequence (e.g. shipping forecast timing), or also not constant and these are sample values (e.g. highest temperature per month).
Number being minutes not far wrong suggests perhaps seconds or hours; perhaps it is the seconds past the hour for sunset time at TBH?

If there is a guess in PhilW's most recent reply, it isn't sufficiently explicit.

I guess that Phil's guess is sunset at the bung-hole in seconds. My part to this guess would be sunset at TBH on the day of

tastings.
Re: One quiz at a time

This clearly has nothing to do with sunset times. Why denote these only in one order of time; and if these are not minutes they must be seconds; and to give a time only by its least significant order (the seconds) seems meaningless; and anyway the time of sunset is not determinable to the second. And are we talking civil twilight or some other measure? No no no.
Are these degrees of a circle or subdivisions thereof?

I assumed sunset because of the line about hypnotically beautiful and practical, or whatever it was. Practical being 'red sky at night' etc.
I have been looking at sunset times here;

I did but due to faulty maths and clearing up after the departure of visitors I have been unable to identify the next in the sequence. I'm also doubtful about being right, it seems unlikely as I have a poor record against Julian's questions.

No.
Nor sunset, nor sunrise, nor anything like it. Nor anything particularly at the Bung Hole.

Phil has a record of being better at musing than guessing.

Now I know it isn't the sun I must set off in some new direction. I will now follow the clue about 'in some of these islands', where that leads me I'm not too sure. We have tried the sun, what about the moon. Is it tides, spring or neap or whatever? And are there some islands which are more affected than others?
I don't seem to be getting very far. But like Phil I may be better at musing.

For a third and final time I will draw attention to Phil’s musings.

As for the musings, I'd rule out temperature as the sample values eliminates Fahrenheit and Celsius. A value of 00 would seem to eliminate other weather measuarables.
Sunset and sunrise times have been eliminated. That leaves the shipping forecast. As I'm not a mariner I can't think of a related guess.
Are the numbers paired? :- 00:48, 05:20, 12:01, 17:xx , Tide times?

I am unconvinced that it is appropriate to describe 0048 ! 0520 ! 1201 ! 1754 as "a sequence of eight two-digit numbers". It is clearly a sequence of four four-digit numbers. Harrumph.

Julian that was a lovely question. The combination of hypnotic and practical should have got me there sooner.
Phil; because you finally through with one of your relatives. And this is all part of an elabourate alibi.

Because the MDMA in Cambridgeshire is rubbish, you've had enough of legal highs, and you want to listen to your Goat LP this weekend?
I also think JDAW's question was inaccurate; or at least inexact.

I think someone asking a question should keep an eye on the answers. Phil always does this; he must be off using his acid. Or perhaps he's just tripping his face off. Either way, I think insufficiently attentive questioners should have to wade through dozens of dilatory guesses when they return. Owen, Derek, let's get busy.
