I could have sworn there was a comment just here a moment ago.. But my eyes must be playing tricks on me...

Anyone out there with an actual guess...?

Is it some type of fungal growth, perhaps in a certain shape? (Such as could form on the neck of old ullaged bottles)?

The question:

I do not expect you to guess the word, but please tell me what type of a thing it is.
djewesbury wrote:It is a tangible thing that has three dimensions.
It has nothing directly to do with Port.

No. What an interesting pattern your mind makes...

Is it anything to do with art?

Perhaps it is the name for a new tool used for detecting forgeries of some kind?

Perhaps it has something to do with cricket? Daniel seems to be a big fan of this sport.

Is it a name for a form of log sculpture (given your recent garden activities)?

Nothing at all to do with art.

Entirely unconnected with sport.

Then it is connected to the kitchen or some culinary experiment ( like turning milk into Port)

Nope. It is not equipment of this sort.
Some more general guesses would probably help to narrow this down.

The thing is readily available in every household. Your artistic mind just turned it into something new that we normal people would not have thought of.
I hope this qualifies as a proper guess.

No. It is not a new word or a term I've invented. It's a real word, in existence for a long time, but inexplicably not in the dictionary.

The thing is most commonly described using a two-word name. Both words begin with a letter in the first half of the alphabet.
It feels obvious that someone will guess it immediately now.

Does the first word begin with a C and the second with a D?

No. I fear this will not be a productive line of enquiry. Why not try and narrow down the class of thing?

And it rules out many other things besides.
It is not used primarily for storage, although like many things it could be, at a push, if you needed.
Just noticed it wasn't your turn.

Sorry Phil, missed this one. It is functional, but it generally has some aesthetic element to it too: in that order, I'd say.

You aren't allowed two questions at once, even if you label one of them 'guess'.
It is not any form of incense burner.

I should have used a full-stop on the second one instead of a question mark - I was trying to ensure I was still actively guessing, rather then just asking questions.

You've told us that it is made (as opposed to naturally occurring in nature); Is it assembled?
Guess: Dustbin bag.

Excellently formulated, but I still think you're stretching the rules. I'll make an exception this time but don't make a habit of it!
It does have to be assembled. It is not a dustbin bag.

To clarify:
Each person is allowed one guess at a time. That guess might be in the form of a question ("Is it a cockroach?"), or a statement ("It's a cockroach!")
Liberal interpretations of the rules (such that one question can be supplemented with one statement) are not provided for.
Guess wisely.

It has no moving parts.

It is usually referred to with a two-word name. Both words begin with a letter in the first half of the alphabet. (The first word does not begin with C; the second does not begin with D.)

It is not used for storage, ordinarily.
