The Alderley Edge Hotel, because you want to add a bottle of T55 to your bill for £485.00½?

I already guessed that.

My first post was a mite before yours. My second was a mite after, but gave more specific reasoning — even though a ha’penny inaccurate. We are in the hands of our fearless judge.

To avoid an unpleasant scene next time JDAW and DJ meet, I award the winner's burden to Flash, using the Question Poser's right to change the rules. Yes, I am staying at the Alderley Edge Hotel because of their rather impressive wine list.

How exciting. The Alderley Edge Hotel has a decent collection of ports, some of which do not appear on their wine list - and some of which are unknowns but appear to my eye to be from the '50s or '60s. Negotiations continue to attempt to agree a price for one of the unknowns to be opened to accompany my shoulder of suckling pork.

Superb :)

Good luck with the negotiations!

Sadly negotiations collapsed as the restaurant manager would not answer his phone and no-one else was able to make a decision. I had to make do with a couple of glasses of freshly decanted Taylor '66. Life can be hard!

I am proud to say I successfully resisted butting in to the decanting process. Nor did I say anything along the lines of "For goodness sake, give me that corkscrew!"

All came good in the end. And the port is damned delicious and impressive.

I may have to give in and have a third glass...

These glasses...what measure are they?

They are a free hand pour into a white wine glass. I estimate that they are a generous 60-75ml.

I may be able to tell you later. I'm now on glass 4 and chuckling at the fact that my 2011 tasting notes have made an appearance in Paul Metman's Guest Corner Article in Roy's latest For The Love of Port newsletter.

For those who are interested, I am on my fifth glass of water.

Damn! I've just realised I may have fallen victim to Flash's cunning trap and answered his question! Damn him! Now I have to think of something to ask...

In different circles I adhere to a noble policy of "no gloating", which I also adhere to here. Your question.

Beautifully done. Allow admiration of a master professional at work: the slight of hand, so natural that deceit was not even considered, and even a misleading glance at the glasses. Effortless. Beautifully done.

Today, on a down escalator at Kings Cross, I passed two famous people. Name them. (There might have been more than two, bit I noticed only two.)

Well, you have one of the two. The other was presumably a device to allow others to guess.

Followed by much chatter amongst the people around me about the PM being on the Victoria Line.

Wait, you get to vote again if you mess it up first time? Oh we have a different system here. You get to vote as many times as you like so long as you vote for the same party each time (especially if you're dead).
No.

If there was vinegar then I would guess fish and chips which leads me to the obvious choice of champagne. I think your house fizz would be Perrier Jouet, not because it's best but because the bottle has most kerb appeal.

As to vegetables; asparagus.
