1955 Martinez
A deep, mature, brick-red colour; 60% opaque. Delicious on the nose, full of spiced cherries. Some heat on the nose at first, but this fades with a little time in the glass to allow the elegant floral tones to come to the fore. Lovely fully mature fruit dominates the early palate, with a lovely balance and a great richness to the depth of the fruit; a generous dose of acidity provides balance and a wonderful bitterness acts as a terrific counterpoint to the sweet, dense fruit. The bitter-sweet balance of flavours carries through on the aftertaste and drives a wonderful, long and multi-faceted finish. Simply delicious port! 93/100.
Top 2025: Quevedo 1972 Colheita, b.2024. Just as good as Niepoort 1900!
