Edward Bland Corney, now remembered for his firm Corney & Barrow, was a member of the Worshipful Company of Drapers.

It is whisky trivia rather than Port trivia: Whisky matured in space tastes different. (The experiment has obvious flaws, but is entertaining nonetheless.)

In a book published in 2000 (although I believe it may have been printed in a magazine article before this) Jay McInerney says that the 94 vintage would not be fit for drinking until the Red Sox next won the World Series. The Red Sox having last won this in 1918 it seemed like a safe bet, unfortunately for Jay's predictive powers the Red Sox have won the World Series three times since then, first in 2004 which, given America's propensity for drinking young port may accurately reflect the date much of it was opened.

Despite this inaccuracy Mr McInerney is about the best contemporary wine writer around.
