A mid-shoulder fill from a bottle which was had started to leak rapidly.

Deep burnished redwood in colour, clear and attractive; 50% opaque. A little book dust on the nose, perhaps a hint of maraschino cherry. Thick in texture, full of red licorice and sweet raspberry jelly; infused with cinnamon and nutmeg, wonderful spices all over the fruit. Great balance. A flash of acidic heat, perhaps with the alcohol giving a slight burn on the aftertaste before a long and massive finish that lasts 2-3 minutes and makes the cheeks tingle. A fabulous port. 94/100. 26-May-16. Decanted 1 hour
Top 2025: Quevedo 1972 Colheita, b.2024. Just as good as Niepoort 1900!

2026: Quinta das Carvalhas 80YO Tawny
