1980 Quarles Harris

Post by Alex Bridgeman »

Deep red and opaque, the colour of oxidised blood. A huge nose of blackberry jelly, sweet and very powerful with a beautiful heather perfume. Slightly closed on entry with the alcohol showing through the huge structure with a mass of tannins. Very mineral at first with little fruit showing. Chewy and perfumed on the aftertaste and a massive black chocolate and cocoa finish that has an amazing length, full of bitter black licorice. Served blind this was guessed to be Dow 2007. This was made from grapes sourced from Rio Torto valley properties. 95/100. Drunk 25-Sep-16. Decanted 3 hours.
Top Ports in 2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.

2025: Quevedo 1972 Colheita, b.2024. Just as good as Niepoort 1900!
