1997 Sandeman Vau

Post by Alex Bridgeman »

Tasted at the Confraria dinner. Two double magnums were tasted side-by-side, one matured in the UK and the other matured in the Sandeman cellars in Vila Nova de Gaia. This bottle was matured in Vila Nova de Gaia. Deep red. Gentle fruit showing on the nose, fresh and clean. Showing on the nose to be in the early stages of maturity but with plenty of time ahead of it. Soft juicy tannins on a soft, juicy palate; gently chewy with raisins and redcurrants drifting along the finish. Lovely port, softened and rounded. 87/100. 22-Jun-17. Decanted 12 hours.
Top Ports in 2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.

2025: Quevedo 1972 Colheita, b.2024. Just as good as Niepoort 1900!
