Yes please.

Would people prefer Fonseca 1960 or Cockburn 1967?

(This event is cruel to Alex, who will e too busy.)

I would vote for F60.

Sadly this is cruel to Alex, although he will have a great time as well with the producers, I hope. This is at least what I am doing on the eve of an event.

Phil,

can you please confirm you are coming? If so I will bring one of my few left Averys 63 as you wanted to try that.

Wolfgang - that would me most excellent - thank you; I can now confirm my attendance. With Wolfgang bringing an Av63, I will in that case bring a T63 since it is our understanding that the Av63 was comprised of F63/S63/T63 in 2:2:1 ratio, and it would be good to taste the components alongside if that were possible. In that vein, since we already have the F63 and T63, if anyone else were willing and able to bring a S63 then please do!

Hi Phil,

no worries; since I do not have that many left and I stumbled over a bt the other day I thought about it being drunk at the warm up tasting for Alex first BFT.
From my sources the composition of the Averys blend was 3 parts Sandeman, 2 parts Taylor and 1 part Fonseca 1963 so 3:2:1. Can we find out to be sure? EDN I am sure should know or knew as friends with John Avery before he sadly died. Sandeman 1963 is a great port and if possible let us include it!

regards

I made contact with the Avery family last year (thanks to help from Julian and contacts in the Wine Industry), I was hoping to find out further information about the blends of that and other years, with the plan for a tasting of 2 or three Avery ports alongside their component parts, but unfortunately after initially positive contact I then didn't receive further reply, and not wanting to be intrusive I left it at that; I might send another email now, and then leave it there if I don't hear further. I think having the chance to try the '63 alongside its components whatever their original ratio will be very interesting though, and I look forward to it.

Having heard from Axel that his S63 is not of sufficient condition to make the trip for this tasting, if anyone else has access to a S63 please consider bringing it or allowing someone else to adopt it, as it would be a shame not to be able to taste the component wines alongside the (rare) Avery.

Very interesting with two blended bottles the same evening! I did't know that Averys 1963 was a blend. I presume you all know that Harvey's 1962 is a blend of Cockburn and Martinez.

It would be fabulous to have the Sandeman 1963 at the same time if that is possible! Having the components of Harvey's would be quite impossible i'm afraid.

Yes we are both attending but these were options from my cellar. Sten will select from his cellar. I will bring Feist as this is rare in the UK as far as I understand.

Alex B. was born in 1963, and has tasted many (many!) 1963s. He might never had had the Fs63. Please could it be saved for an evening which he could attend? (Or, if you have enough of them, would you be willing to sell one for me to give him?)

You currently have me bringing the Av63 which is not correct; it's Wolfgang S bringing the Av63, with myself bringing a T63 (one of the components) - unless Ian has a T63 (I need to make sure I can find mine!) in which case I have another alternative.

The thirteen bottles look correct to me. I couldn’t quite tell if Axel’s post here was suggesting that a bottle was being brought on behalf of the industry guest, in which case there is a bottle missing. And will the guest take the blank placemat?
