A clear and glistening dark rose red with a narrow rim. A lovely nose, elegant and full of fragrance, delicate and lovely and full of fruit. Balanced, smooth-textured entry; lots of fruit but with generous tannins with a very slight green tone. Nice levels of acidity giving a wonderful freshness to the fruit. A gentle chewy finish of black fruit pastilles and a long very tannic finish. A very distinguished Port with just so much refinement - the unanimous wine of the night. 94/100. Drunk 17-Mar-20. Decanted 21 hours.
Top 2025: Quevedo 1972 Colheita, b.2024. Just as good as Niepoort 1900!

2026: Quinta das Carvalhas 80YO Tawny

90% opacity, deep dark red. Big, powerful nose, some violets, black plums. Lovely, smooth mouthfeel, big black fruits, some sweetness. Very together, chewey. Lovely port. Would happly drink this now, and every year forward for another 40 years.
