Hooper's 1944

I went to check out the bottle of hooper's 1944 port today and I think the store misrepresented the bottle.

at 150$ it was priced like a VP. On inspection of the bottle it had a T stopper and it was a tawny like color. I later saw in tiny print .. "Bottled in 88".

Does anybody know if hooper's actually made a 1944 VP?

Sounds distinctly weird: 44 years to bottling would make a Colheita whince.

I can't find any reference to a Hooper 44 VP. Not many shippers declared that year for obvious reasons. The bottle you seen was definitely a Colheita, not a VP, but I don't think it was over-priced for a wine of that age.

I was shocked at the very brown color. Was worried at first that if it was a VP .. then it clearly madierized. 150$ for madierized VP is too expensive =)

But $150 for a lovely brown 66 year old Colheita isn't too bad

G-man - I think what Derek is suggesting and I just hinted is that is a:

Colheita
that's all.

That is certainly what I was suggesting, and the fact that it is brown is therefore not a problem.

g-man, I may make it to a NY Off-line one day but please don't keep this one for me. VP is my thing, not the brown stuff, even though I do enjoy it now and again.

Colheita with some home made scones, clotted cream and fig jam makes for a brilliant breakfast =)
