1969 Warre LBV (unfiltered)
Warre 1969 Vintage Port, bottled 1974. The bottle had signs of seepage but was base of neck fill with a good colour. When the seal was removed (which had been tightly wrapped with Clingfilm) it became obvious the cork had fallen into the bottle. However, the capsule appears to have protected the wine. Decanted 4 hours. An attractive bronze colour, looking fully mature; 40% opaque. A nose of sweet cherry, spiced beautifully with a grating of mace. Very mellow on the palate, fully mature with flavours of baked apple, cinnamon and cloves. Warm and spiced fruit. A little spearmint shows on the aftertaste, but quickly fades to a gentle black tea and apple finish. Fully mature Port, sliding gently into its place in history. Thoroughly enjoyable without being overly complex. 88/100.
