Anybody ever hear of Massandra port?
Hart davis auction coming up has the 1895 for low estimate of 200$/bottle
btw fonseca 1977 original wooden case of 12 at same auction, I'm looking only for 3-6 bottles, anyone want to get in with me? estimates 1200-1800 not inclusive of 20% buyers premium

Massandra port was made from grapes grown in the Crimean vineyards and was intended for comsumption by the Czar and his household.
Around 10, perhaps 20, years ago the remnants of the Czar's cellar that survived through Communist Russia were auctioned off through Christies and occasionally come up for resale.
I've never tried one, but admit that I'm not really sure what I would expect were I to do so.

I have got my hands on some Massandra Ayu-Dag 1936. Anyone who knows what to expect?
And do I decant the bottles prior to drinking?
Cheers from Denmark

I would expect that this will have thrown a deposit in the bottle and therefore should be decanted. I would be tempted to decant no more than an hour before drinking.

Had the Massandra Ayu-dag 1936 yesterday. What a sugarbomb
Maby just a little toooo sweet.
Massive tast of prunes. I am glad we had a 1938 Colheita from Souza, just to level out the balance.

An upper and a downer, good shout. Any chance of a tasting note on 'other wines' as they do turn up now and again?MacAllan wrote:Had the Massandra Ayu-dag 1936 yesterday. What a sugarbombMaby just a little toooo sweet.
