NV Barros Tawny 102 Special Edition

Post by Alex Bridgeman »

NV Barros 102. A special blend made to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the founding of Barros in 1913, bottled and released in 2018. The wines used in the blend have a minimum age of 50 years and come from casks 11133, 11134, 11080, 11083 and 11086. This is bottle 1358 of a total production of 1913 bottles.

A rich golden amber colour, 40% opaque with a hint of green on the rim. Orange caramel and hazelnuts on the nose.

Thick in texture; incredibly dense and rich in flavour on the palate, with intense caramelised orange carrying almond and hazelnut paste under the orange. Immense acidity clears away the caramel-like sweetness that dominates the aftertaste, revealing an intense Seville orange marmalade finish that has incredible longevity. This is an immense and intense Port with unbelievable concentration, yet concentration that is somehow in balance. Very, very impressive. My oh my. 98/100. Drunk 18-Feb-2025.
Top Ports in 2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.

2025: Quevedo 1972 Colheita, b.2024. Just as good as Niepoort 1900!
