1973 Quinta da Devesa White Colheita

Post by winesecretary »

Popped and poured from fridge. Om first sniff I thought that is unfair to a wine of this quality so I let it sit in glass.

A beautiful tangerine colour.

Nose has orange peel oil, nuts, tarragon and rancio.

Sweet honeyed entry but it dries fast to a nutty finish with dried unsulphured mango and papaya.

This is really quality stuff. Is this the best 1973 port of all?

The Casa de Santa Eufemia Reserva Especial White is from 1973 or I should say was originally from 1973 and is very nice, but probably not as good as the Devesa. I believe the story goes that the folks at Casa de Santa Eufemia did not submit the proper paperwork in time to have this declared as a 1973 and as such they couldn't put the year on the label; hence the name Reserva Especial White.
