1994 Smith Woodhouse

Post by Alex Bridgeman »

Smith Woodhouse 1994, half bottle, pop and pour. Deep red, about 80% opaque. Powerful baked blackcurrant nose with a bit of a green herbal tone. Sweet blackcurrant on the palate with a gentle tannic grip. A little one-dimensional with glorious fruit but not a lot of subtlety. The magnificent blackcurrant fills the aftertaste and finish, developing just a hint of dark chocolate and Turkish Delight at the end. Great duration finish. Youthful, full of delicious fruit and well able to mature another 20-50 years. 90/100.
Top Ports in 2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.

2025: Quevedo 1972 Colheita, b.2024. Just as good as Niepoort 1900!
