NV Churchill Crusted 2012

Post by rich_n »

Tasted at the Churchill lodge in Gaia, alongside the 2007 bottling.

Purple to brick red on the rim, opaque.

Nose is fairly dumb, mostly mineral. Not overly inviting.

The palate is an entirely different story! Lush candied strawberries on the entry flooding the senses with caramel and vanilla - these carry through beautifully. Milk chocolate. But the mid palate brings a heavy tannic grip along with the minerality from the nose - it's muscular but not unpleasant. Plenty of acidity to balance - citrus, grapefruit and Sicilian lemons. Some herbal notes into the finish, led by eucalyptus. Very drying. This is fabulous - v good. If i can find it for sale in the UK I might be tempted to age some and see where it ends up in a decade or two.
