To record tasting notes and thoughts on fortified wines we might try which do not come from the demarcated region of the Douro Valley

1957 d'Oliveira Old Wine Meio Doce Madeira

Post by Alex Bridgeman »

A sample saved from a tasting earlier in 2019. A late 1970s bottling of d’Oliveira's 1957 Tinta Negra Mole “Old Madeira”. Dark chestnut brown colour. Strong furniture polish on the nose. Slightly bitter chestnuts in a fiercely acidic molasses on the palate. Deep and intense flavours. Long, long finish. Fabulous Madeira. 95/100. Originally tasted 21-May-2019.
Top 2025: Quevedo 1972 Colheita, b.2024. Just as good as Niepoort 1900!

2026: Quinta das Carvalhas 80YO Tawny
