Vintage 1809 ?

Post by uncle tom »

From infoportwine:
200 years old Port Wine from ocean.
01/08/09. Hungarian investigators have found about 1,000 bottles with 200 years old Port Wine in the Atlantic Ocean off the coast of Pernambuco/Brazil. The discovery was made by the company Octopus which is specialised in deep sea investigation. See: http://92.61.114.104/hu/team/default.asp (only Hungarian).
The bottles are undamaged. The wine has been tasted and analysed by the Hungarian Huba Szeremley (connoisseur and entrepreneur) and by the University of Budapest. They stated that the Port is suitable for consumption.
Octopus wants to expose the discovery in the short run in Brazil, Portugal and Hungary. Nothing can be said yet about the value, but Octopus likes to get into contact with interested parties.

Would be quite interesting to see how they taste.

If I'm not mistaken and if it's the same company, some time ago Roy was send pics of the bottles and some you could see make out a shape on the capsule. He posted them on :ftlop: ..let me try and find them...I don't think anyone has figured out 100% what the logo on the capsule is from though.

Ah finally found it, from June 2007. While the locations are a bit off, that may have been done on purpose back then. The best conclusion was they were possibly Smith Woodhouse. here is the thread

If you paste one paragraph at a time into Google's translation tool it translates most of the text on the page in the link but sadly it is just an intro page and not the story of the bottles.
