Pernod Ricard Ports?

Post by jdaw1 »

Is anyone confident of their understanding of Pernod Ricard’s port business. My best knowledge is that:
• PR own ‘Cockburn’.
• PR own Sogrape, which owns ‘Ferreira’, ‘Offley Boa Vista’, and various defunct brands including ‘Constantino’, ‘Tuke Holdsworth’, and (relatedly) ‘Hunt, Roope’.
• PR distribute the ports of, but do not own, ‘Sandeman’.

What have I missed?

PR own Sogrape
Didn't know that - when did they buy them?

Do they own Sogrape? I thought Sogrape owned itself. Sandeman is also part of Sogrape.

PR owns the brand Cockburn and distributes it. Symington owns the stocks and vineyards and makes the ports.

So if you want to drink 'French' port, you'd better start to care for Cockburn Special Reserve. Or switch to pastis.

Sogrape is independent (and Portuguese).

Sogrape owns Sandeman - which they bought from Diagem and Pernod Ricard - but has an arrangement with PR for international distribution. Press release.

I know that Pernod-Ricard owns Pernod, an aniseed based aperitif known for making people talk bo****ks and Ricard, an aniseed based aperitif known for making people write bo****ks.

On another subject altogether, have you been picking up excessive aniseed notes in your Ports since you moved to Paris, Julian?
Port is basically a red drink
