That will be 42 bottles, otherwise described as a mildly challenging line-up.

Perhaps better to have 14 x 78 and 7 each of 85 and 87?

True statement,

at least I could manage to scare a scotsman once in my life.

Agreed. so it will be a 85 or an 87 to bring and still the three Nacionals will be supplied aditionally.

Btw I am not really sure if we can manage to get 14 from 1978.

Is this event still on? It has been under the radar for some time and another tasting has now been arranged very close to this one. Those who require Wifely Passes need to get their double application in quickly

I don't think there is any reason to cancel or move it, I had just forgotten about it because there has been no conversation here since November.

Perhaps it would be good to confirm what the current plan is in terms of who is signed-up and which bottles we have and which we need to find?

I have Dow, Fonseca, and Graham from 1985. Nothing that I am aware of from 78, and only some 87 halfs of Niepoort. But I am happy to source whatever makes sense.

How about the Noval 78? I don't think that has been spoken for -- and of the 85s I have, I don't think anyone so far is bringing Grahams.

How would those two serve?

Sorry Axel, I seem to have '94d my remaining 87s niepoorts, and only seem to have one left.

One the bright side, I do have an 85 grahams, if that'd be of use.

Placemats: Axel, who is your +1? Who is the Sogrape VIP? Who made the Eira Velha? Will there be a Dow Bomfim 1987? I know not the shipper ‟tbd”: more clues please.

Current plan is that each flight of twelve glasses will be on two A4 pages, holding (wait for it) six each (applaud now!). Objections? Are there any of the placemats in the list of examples that you like enough to want to use as a template?

Nine people: decanter labels, or pre-pour sheets?

My recommendation: both. A decent sample should be pre-poured. For many people that will be drinking enough, and spare. For the others, top-ups become possible.

And I do have F85, but not F87. Who is bringing the F87?

First draft of placemats, with some gaps (G|D|T? Happy with assumption of pre-pouring?), and need for ordinary checking.

Email says that we are without Ray. So that’s twenty-two bottles for eight people. For eight people not including Derek.

Hence there is likely to be much wastage. Possible remedies include: cancel or postpone the 1978 session; cancel or postpone the 1985 versus 1987 session; cancel or postpone both.

Nonetheless, updated draft of placemats, with the same gaps. (The making of this draft revealed two separate bugs in the software fixed and a need for an enhancement of functionality not yet done.)

Due to the many disabilities to attend I would suggest to skip the second part and head on to a solely 78 tasting, which will reduce the costs as well. If you wish you can bring an additional bottle that you would like to share. I will do so since I got a hand on a bottle of the Casa do Douro Colheitas of 1963 which were discussed at the forum (viewtopic.php?f=1&t=3603).

Please post if these proceedings do suit you. We will not seperate the tasting but will taste all bottles after dinner which will start at 7 pm.

So now you want a ’78 tasting, and a bring-a-bottle tasting. That makes 10+8 = 18 bottles between 8 people. In one session. Are you sure?

The idea was that everyone who wants to bring an additional bottle, can do so. The other plan would be to stick solely to 78s. What would you prefer, Julian? Are you really concerned about too much port? I never thought Id hear you say that.

We’re all good people, wishing to play by the rules. If there is a bring-a-bottle tasting, who would want to be seen to drink and not provide? So everybody will bring.

If that is what you want to happen, then so be it. If not, then do not take half a step there because it will carry you the whole distance.

My advice is that ten to twelve 1978s will be plenty for eight people.

Axel,

Julian is right, we should not openly cause confusion. If we were to leave it as you said all would turn up with another bt. Therefore we stick only to the 1978 Port tasting. I have contacted two people I know and I hope we can boost the attendance again. With regards to the Colheita let us find another occasion.

So it will be a tasting of the 78s only. Everybody who was scared can now sign in again.

The following ports will be tasted:

Noval Nacional (brought by Wolfgang)
Noval (brought by Tom, Julian, do you care to adopt this?)
Dow Bomfim (brought by Axel)
Ferreira (brought by Wolfgang)
Niepoort (brougth by Andreas)
Fonseca Guimaraens (brought by Tom)
Croft da Roeda (brought by Tom)
Taylors Vargellas (brought by Ben)
Eira Velha (brought by Tom, Chris Doty )
Hutcheson (brought by Axel, can be adopted, otherwise by fund)

Dinner will start at 7pm, all ports are to be brought to the club until 5pm or being already decanted. Julian, could you please update the placemats again. Thanks
