What is it with Marseille . . .

Talk about anything but keep it polite and reasonably clean.

The European Leagues have only just started. Dont get wrapped up in freaky, early results. The great Manchester United were only 19th out of 22 after 3 games, but 6 games later are about to go top!
Marseille were magnificent against the arch enemy, The Dippers! So impressive they inspired my 'G for Gluttony' thread.

And Luc, noticing another thread elsewhere, you do know that Sporting Lisbon wear Green and white Hoops? Some may say it's colourful. Others may say it's Pizza vomit! :D

I'm still in the infant stages of the soccer world , so bear with me .
As for Sportings colors and design , beauty is in the eye of the beholder .
But some things defy logic !!

I know it is tempting fate but the past month has perhaps been the most successful for Scottish football in my lifetime:
  • Scotland beating France (World Cup Runners-up) 1-0 in the Euro Championships Qualifiers and currently heading a table which also contains Italy (World Cup Champions)
  • Rangers beating Lyon (current French League Leaders) 3-0 away from home
  • Celtic beating the current European Champions AC Milan 2-1
Not bad at all 88)

Not wishing to put too much of a dampner on these things, but you do have to actually achieve things from these great results.
If Scotland qualify, or Celtic/Rangers reach the knock out stages, absolutely, it's tremendous. If they dont, it's like when you beat United at home last year, a lot of fuss, but didn't result in anything.

and Luc, maybe you should start off watching Scottish football. If you can put up with that tosh, it'll be a joy to move up to the big boys of the Premiership! :D

Alan,

I agree, a few great victories are nothing without an end result. But I cannot remember a time when 3 Scottish teams could have pulled off such famous victories at the same time. Perhaps it's a sign that the lack of money in our game is actually paying dividends by allowing home grown talent to be an essential part of the club system?

Luc, don't be fooled by Alan's suggestion that watching English Premiership football is all good. Like all leagues across the globe there are a small handful of good teams, a bunch of teams who never achieve anything and a few at the bottom who bob up and down from one league to another on a regular basis. 80% of Premiership football is as poor as you will see anywhere. The other 20% makes it all look better than it actually is. This is also a feature of the Italian, French, German and Spanish leagues. It is just how things are.

I shall not be fooled , and will reserve judgement at a later date provided I indulge in an appropriate amount of Port and sample various Leagues . . .

Nice place (no pun intended)

Based on the result at the weekend, I'd say Marseilles is an excellent place.

You could say that the result at the weekend means that most English people had a G'day on Saturday.

Paris next weekend is unlikely to be as good...
Top Ports in 2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.

2025: Quevedo 1972 Colheita, b.2024. Just as good as Niepoort 1900!

Good grief! Its like the Lions victory, and the last World Cup. We lend you one or two Rugby League Stars, and you start ripping up trees!

Good job we didn't lend you the Saints team, who win everything year in year out. Mind you, who'd realistically want to leave Sunny St.Helens to go down South?

I think Saturday is 50/50. Should be good.
