Anything but Port, this includes all wines other than fortified wines (which have their own section) even if they call themselves Port. There is a search facility for this part of the forum.

2005 Axe Hill cape vintage

Post by Alex Bridgeman »

Axe Hill 2005 Cape Vintage. Made from a blend of Touriga Nacional, Tinta Barroca and Souzao. Intense colour, an opaque deep red. Open fresh nose of soft fruit. Sweet and smooth fruit entry; the gentle tannins are slow to develop and come with a slight bitter twist but end up being very noticeable. The palate has a good balance and the structure promises a decent cellar life. The slight bitterness to the tannins shows again on the huge finish. Overall, this is a lovely port that has really benefitted from an extra 2 years in the cellar. 91/100. Drunk 24-Apr-14 at BFT5.
Top Ports in 2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.

2025: Quevedo 1972 Colheita, b.2024. Just as good as Niepoort 1900!
