1998 Taittinger Comtes de Champagne

Post by LGTrotter »

This wine seems to have picked itself out of a slump. Last bottle I had only a year ago I thought was on the way out, looking a bit dark under the eyes.

This one is back to mid season form. Tiny bubbles like pinpricks, good mousse. The colour is a mature but still very pale for a white wine. A little bit of mushroom in with the hay on the nose. A lovely, soft, nutty taste. Mature but in no sense on the way out. Rather serious, even demanding for a champagne which should always be an exciting drink.

I shall have to think of a score, it will have to be a very good one.

16.06.14@23:01; Thought of one.

Score; A Versace dress.

Sounds lovely.

Was this for an occasion? For example, because it was Friday?

Emma won a book award, only a little one but she has been long listed and short listed a few times and it was starting to feel a bit 'always the bridesmaid never the bride'. I could gush but being British an' all... And it's her favourite champagne. I'm a bit worried about giving her the later vintages I have of this so strong is her liking.

Well done to Ms Trotter (please don't tell me her middle name is Gengulphus too?) What is the book and where may we purchase it?

Why yes, and one of them I was not allowed to call Lemmuel Gengolphus Trotter. A 'middle grade' book, (ie 9 to 12yo) it may not be right up your alley, but cart them off by the sackful from all reputable bookeries if you wish. I often get a case of port when the cheques arrive. :)

Very impressed.

Chaps - it seems Owen is married to the next J.K. Rowling - we must make him our life-long friend.

She has mastered the Rowling loot. My total royalties from my book (published 2001) might buy, at a pinch, two dozen 2011s.

I fear the comparisons with Rowling nee Galbraith have no traction. The joy of creativity is reward enow.

My recently added score was suggested by Emma. We do not mean that awful Liz Hurley thing.

Congrtulations to Emma and I admire her taste in Champagne. This vintage of Comtes is a favourite of mine.
