1988 Chateau Leoville Las Cases

Post by Alex Bridgeman »

Decanted at the table around 2 hours before we arrived. Wonderful and fragrant nose of mature fruit yet mixed with the perfect cedar expected from a mature cabernet sauvignon based wine. Smooth and velvety in texture with the perfect self-confidence of a top quality claret; wonderful flavour profile with a depth of flavour that was matched perfectly by the soft acidity. There were ghosts of tannins, but these were almost hidden by the resplendent fruit. Wonderful aftertaste that reminded you for several minutes of the taste that you would get when you took your next sip. I love claret like this. 94/100. Drunk 02-Jul-14. Decanted 3 hours.
Top Ports in 2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.

2025: Quevedo 1972 Colheita, b.2024. Just as good as Niepoort 1900!

That's two 'perfect's. I'm impressed!
