The colour is more yellow than is quite correct. The mousse is a little coarse but persistent. Not much on the nose but yeast. A lovely winey flavour which is reminiscent of Bollinger NV but broader. This tastes a bit heavy to my way of thinking, but lovers of the style would appreciate its smoothness and roundness. Not much fruit on the palate, the secondary flavours dominating. I wouldn't keep it for too long. It also has a touch of the Perrier-Jouet towards the end of the bottle with a bit of a cheesy nose.
I feel I have slightly twitted this wine, but this is unintentional. It is a very good wine, perhaps the style is not my thing. Or even just my mood.

I am no champagne connoisseur but I have never like the Old Widow and always felt confused as to what the fuss was all about. Then again the orange label is usually to be seen getting poured over sportsmen's heads. Perhaps there is a reason for that.LGTrotter wrote:The colour is more yellow than is quite correct. Emma is very fond of the orange label, she is wise in all matters champagne. Some of the vintage I liked a lot, 2002 and 1990 stand out in my mind. But it's not a champagne I reach for usually. More of a Pol man myself.
