1990 Karthäuserhof Eitelsbacher Karthäuserhofberg Riesling Spätlese
The Eitelsbacher Karthäuserhofberg is a very good vineyard in the Mosel region and belongs exclusively to the Karthäuserhof winery (which is unusual in the Mosel region with it's similar inheritance laws as Burgundy).
From a magnum:
paly golden colour, a severe nose that smells of paint thinner, in the mouth tastes slightly of paint thinner (not that I have tasted this yet, but that's how I imagine it would taste), some acidity and really quite dry (the sugar really dried out in the circa 23 years in bottle), some apricot in the aftertaste, medium finish, it was interesting to taste this wine, but I think this paricular bottle should have been drunk years ago.
Tasted at an event in a local supermarket in Cologne on the 5th of July 2014.
