2012 Wallerath Schweicher Annaberg Riesling Spätlese Feinhb

Post by djewesbury »

I have attempted to use the bibliographic format recommended by AW77 but there are too many characters for the Subject field; hence my abbreviation of 'Feinherb' to 'Feinhb'.

This is the sister of the Trocken wine from the same vineyard that I drank the other evening. As André explained - Feinherb is indeed 'off-dry'. This is 11%, so perhaps on the sweeter edge of off-dry. The nose is extremely quiet. I have to strain to get anything at all: melon, maybe gooseberry and elderflower, wet stones and promising minerality..

Despite my preference for dry Rieslings, I'm enjoying how this grows in the mouth: the entrance is dry and mineral, growing into delicate melon sweetness in the mid-palate, with a rich, fruity fullness that gives a very pleasant mouthfeel. The finish contains trockenobst (specifically abrikosen) and some sweetness, but overall this is very well balanced, and still clean. Very satisfying.

Did you like the trocken or feinherb best? Which wine you buy again?
