1990 Leoville Las Cases
Deep red and firm in colour, 85% opaque. Muted nose showing much less than the Pichon-Baron, subdued and minerally. Deeply flavoured on the palate, reluctant to show much through the concentrated tannins that are holding the fruit in check. The aftertaste is deeply flavoured and intense across a finish that lasts several minutes and shows what this wine will deliver in the future. One to try again in 5 years. 90/100. Drunk 11-Jul-14. Decanted 2½ hours.
Top 2025: Quevedo 1972 Colheita, b.2024. Just as good as Niepoort 1900!
2026: DR Very Old White, Graham Stone Terraces 2011, Quevedo Branco 1986 b.2026
